We’re exploring how reading can become more accessible for people who experience dyslexia, ADHD, visual stress and other reading or learning differences.
Choose the survey that best describes you:
For many people, loving stories and being able to comfortably read them are two very different things. Dyslexia, ADHD, visual stress and other reading or learning differences can make traditional books difficult, tiring or overwhelming.
The Accessible Books Project is starting by listening. We want to understand the real experiences of readers — what makes reading difficult, what helps, and what could make books more accessible.
Whether you have dyslexia or another reading or learning difference, struggle with traditional book layouts, prefer audiobooks or eBooks because physical books can be difficult, or simply have an experience you'd like to share — your voice matters.
Our reader survey takes approximately 5–8 minutes, and every response helps us better understand what readers actually need.
The Accessible Books Project is an independent research project exploring how physical books could become more accessible and enjoyable for readers of all ages.
We’re currently listening to readers, researching existing evidence and learning from professionals across accessibility, education and publishing before deciding what future solutions could look like.
Hi, I’m Alison Denham, founder of the Accessible Books Project.
As someone who loves books but has experienced firsthand how difficult traditional physical books can be to read, this project is deeply personal to me. I started the Accessible Books Project because I wanted to understand whether there could be a better way — not just for me, but for readers of all ages who experience similar barriers.
I don’t have all the answers, and that’s exactly why this project begins with listening.
We’d love to hear from readers, educators, researchers, accessibility professionals, authors, publishers and organisations who would like to contribute to or learn more about the project.
